Jennifer Fierberg's exclusive interview with Dr T.

Radio Itahuka hosted by John Jambo on the 5th February 2012 aired an interview from Jennifer Fierberg to Dr Theogene Rudasingwa that took place on the 10th December 2011, questioning him on the achievements of Rwanda National Congress as they turned one year in existence.

“It’s Rwanda National Congress’ first year of anniversary, have you met the goal(s) that you set for yourselves” asked Jennifer Fierberg. Dr Theogene responded that “it went beyond our expectations”. The message was well received by Rwandans.

Asked of how he measured it, Theogene Rudasingwa responded by saying that it has been extremely tough year, but people eventually came on board and attended meetings, demonstrations across the world and this pointed out that as difficult as it is, the message that RNC is sending out has been well received by Rwandans.

Jennifer Fierberg questioned him if there are any common themes and that comes up in the meetings and what changes do they want to see happen in Rwanda and if they are lined up within the goals of RNC. Dr Theogene Responded that yes there have been some common themes and issues that confronts Rwanda today. Such issues include the luck of fundamental freedoms and liberty, existence of deep abusive of human rights. Disappearing of activists, journalists and opposition leaders are jailed or killed.

He also added that Rwanda is a place where people are hunted, intimidated in and out of the country. It’s a place where you are deeply divided and traumatized. “So when all those things are combined, you find all these things in the minds of Rwandans you meet” said Theogene Rudasingwa.

“How does the RNC plan to bring different role players in the mainstream, given the social contrast as a basis of a legitimate government?” Asked Jennifer Fierberg.  Dr Theogene Rudasingwa responded in saying that here is a history to learn from. The way it should be done is by creating a social economic and political contrast that is not hinged on another group of elite. He also added that power is there to serve people not to manipulate people, as it the case with Paul Kagame’s regime.
Asked whether there is any potential leader that RNC would hope to have in a place, should they take power in Rwanda, Theogene Rudasingwa responded by saying that as for now it’s not important. “We are in a struggle the issue of choosing leaders ahead of time is not on the agenda”.

“They seem to be a lot of “Come Home” messages from Paul Kagame’s regime , what is the motive behind those messages? Asked Jennifer Fierberg. Theoegene Rudasingwa’s response was that is the propaganda used by the regime to show that Rwanda is well. By showing tourists the buildings in the city of Kigali, telling them that Rwanda is a peaceful country. All those are fabricated lies.  Rwanda is a place where people live with no liberty.

Asked of how RNC envision a transitional government happening in Rwanda, Dr Theogene Rudasingwa said that, given the nature of the current regime and how it came to power in violence, ruled by someone whose logic is violence, can peaceful transitional take place?

RNC-FDU-INKINGI COALITION EXPLAINED PART 2.

First caller on the Radio was Jean Claude who addressed his question to Gerald Gahima. He asked Gerald Gahima, what they achieved thus far with the coalition?
Gerald Gahima responded by saying that different issues were agreed on, that includes rebuilding the country that is based on democracy and that respect of freedom of speech. In addition, Nkiko Nsengimana said that now people see them as leaders who can build a nation, given an example of the activities they undertook such as, mobilizations as well as demonstrations that took place across the world. " This showed the will of people and the strength that RNC-FDU-INKING coalition is gaining on the ground" Said Nkiko Nsengimana.

Sixbert Musangamfura said that people use to have issues with Hutus/Tutsi joining a party and that it created insecurities but now everyone is up in arms and ready to fight for their country. An example would be different members found in the coalition, the demonstrations that took place all over the world. People from all ethnics, Tutsis and Hutus joined hands and the results were amazing. He also added that FDU-Inking was questioned whether it was a party for Hutus by some individuals, Ingabire responded in saying that it belongs to all Rwandans.

Patrick Karegeya told the listeners that they must sit and engage and know each better instead of judging people. He added that, during the meetings they discussed different things that include luck of democracy, freedom of speech, justice and that the western world knows the injustices in Rwanda. He also questioned people of how reconciliation can be archived if there is no freedom of speech. In quoting President Paul Kagame’s words “ Agaciro” he said that, how can people be given a Agaciro without freedom of speech?

Second caller, who did not mention his name, asked the guests that the coalition had brought division in FDU-INKINGI, what was the problem? Nkiko said that during the meetings that took place all the FUD-INKINGI committee members were informed of what’s happening. There are two or three people who broke away and that did not stop them from going ahead and forming the coalition. Patrick Karegeya also emphasised it by saying that in any organisation misunderstandings are expected. It’s not like in the RPF where you have to abide to what Paul Kagame says.

Asked about the mapping report, Gerald Gahima said that they have taken a decision and that it is for all the Rwandans to put pressure on the United Nations as well as implicate those mentioned in the report so that they can be held accountable.  Patrick Karegeya also added that, the UN Security Council has to be pushed in all corners so that the issues of mapping report as well as of Marc Travedic report can be put under the spotlight as soon as possible. Sixbert Musangamfura also affirmed to the listeners that they have explained to various organisations, such as Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and many other organisations the continued impunities in Rwanda.

Dr Theogene Rudasingwa seconded Sixbert Musangamfura’s point by adding that there are so many murders and attempted murders that were engineered by the government of Rwanda. He also stretched out that, people should not sit and wait for the French judges to decide their fate. RNC and FDU-INKINGI should do their utmost best to follow up the mapping report and bring justice to those denied.

Another caller posed a question to Dr Theogene Rudasingwa with regard to an alternative to President Paul Kagame’s regime, the state of readiness and the implications involved.  Patrick Karegeya responded that it is not the first time or the last time someone asks such question.  He stated that there is always an alternative to a “killing machine”. Gerald Gahima also emphasised that those who knew Paul Kagame as a peace maker do no longer see/feel it that way.
He further stressed that people’s perception have changed. When you speak to people in government, they will tell you that he is a killer. They ask themselves, “How will we change it”? Those are questions people pose when you speak to them.

Dr Rudasingwa concluded today’s show by thanking the guests and listeners.  He also reminded them that Radio Itahuka Ijwi ry’Ihuriro Nyarwanda is for them and they should remain with peace.

RNC-FDU- INKINGI COALITION EXPLAINED

Radio Itahuka Ijwi ry’Ihuriro Nyarwanda on the 4th March 2012 hosted some of the founding members of FDU-Inking and Rwanda National Congress, the interview lasted more than two hours as they explained the formation of the coalition.

The interview started by Dr Theogene Rudasingwa welcoming everyone from Rwanda as well as those living outside in neighbouring countries and abroad.  He also requested the guests to introduce themselves to the listeners. Present during the interview were, Dr Theogen  Rudasingwa as a host, Col Partick Karegeya, Sixbert Munsangamfura...,Gahima Gerald and  Nkiko Nsengimana.

Dr Theogene made it clear that the topic of today’s discussion is “The relationship between FUD-INKINGI and RNC on how they can better strengthen their coalition, in the fight to restore democracy, human rights and rule of law in Rwanda”.

The first question was posed to Nkiko Nsengimana, the interim coordinator of FDU-inking in Sweden. “What is the significance and reasoning on FDU-Inkingi,  Rwanda National Congress alliance?” Asked Dr Theogene Rudasingwa.
Nkiko responded by saying that the talks with RNC initial started in 2010 where all the coordinators met in order to put in place a platform with which all the Rwandese can act together, regardless their background and bring about change that they longed for. During those meetings, they were things that they shared in common and felt needed to be discussed , among those are; Human Rights values, Mapping report by the United Nations, Strengthening communication.
Gerald Gahima also added that several parties (CNR-Intwali, Amahoro, etc) were invited to the table, from then on meetings took place and discussions about  the politics of Rwanda and the continued maladministration of the government of Rwanda as well as bring about change in Rwanda within a peaceful means by Rwandese dominated the conversations.

Dr Theogene Rugasingwa then asked Sixbert to explain to the listeners the difference in working with other coalitions, having been involved in politics since 1994? Sixbert started by explaining how forming FLD in 96 did not go well as his partner (Seth Sendashongwa) was continuously assorted and eventually killed in 1998 by President Paul Kagame’s operatives in Kenya. That led to the him joining FDU-Inking which was comprised of FDL, ADR and LDR plus many more Rwandese came on board.
Asked his take on the formations, as a person who once worked for the government, Col Patrick Karegeya responded by saying that during his term in the office, the government of Rwanda knew/heard about the formations and was not happy with that, it scared them. That angered the government and started killing opposition figures as we see it today.

Nkiko Nsengimana also stated that, meeting more opposition parties and civil societies is a necessity in order to strengthen the coalition, he also cautioned those in opposition by saying that there is a need to screen those wanting to join in, for they might disguise themselves, meanwhile they are working with the government.

Dr Theogene Rudasingwa asked them (guests) of what they should do going forward in order to avoid or protect themselves from the killings of President Paul Kagame. Same statements were echoed by all the guests that “we need to come out in full force and speak the truth, expose those operatives for Paul Kagame by reporting them to the relevant authorities of countries hosting them” Said Patrick Karegeya.

They also know that some have a problem of their relatives being back in Rwanda, but they assured them that, Kagame won’t kill the whole nation. Dr Thegeone Rudasingwa also reminded the listeners that RPF was formed in exile, as it the case with many other political parties. Sixbert Munsangamfura added that all Paul Kagame, all he want to do is instil fear, use intimidation on people so that he can rule them. He also told the listeners that, supporters and political organisations working in exile have freedom of speech that they can exercise in order to be heard unlike those who still live in Rwanda.

Dr Theogene Rudasingwa opened a way for those who would like to pose their questions. Party 2 of question and answers, coming up next.

Masabo Nyangezi to taste Rwandan Judicial System.

Masabo Nyangezi, a well known Rwandan musician, is ready and up in arms to test the Rwandan Judicial system after spending a length sentence in prison on false allegations. The state wittiness has final confessed of playing “conspiracy theory” during his appearances before the court. Masabo was arrested on the 10/08/1994.

After spending seven years in jail, he stayed four years living in the Capital Kigali. He felt ill and left the country to seek medical attention. During his absence in 2009, he was sentenced to life in prison by the Ntyazo Gacaca court.

Maria Enoch, who was forced by the police to make false statement against the accused (Masabo Nyangezi) regrets his lies and confessed that he was given orders of what to say, during his appearance. “After realizing the damage after caused to his life and that of his family, my apologies to him and his family” said Maria Enoch.

On the 14th January 2012 Masabo has wrote to the Gacaca court to appeal against Maria Enoch for the injustice suffered. He is currently going under medical treatment for brain tumor suffered while in prison.

“I hope that justice will be served and applied accordingly, in my presence or not. The humiliations that I went through, I await to regain my status through the judgment that will be delivered by the court”. Said Masabo Nyangezi.

This and many other similar cases in Rwanda have raised eye-blows in Rwanda community. Questions remains though, is justice going to be rendered to Masabo? Or will the government, dominated by a group of individuals, ignore his appeal? Is this the begin of Truth and Reconciliation for many Rwandans? Will Kagame's regime accept defeat in this case?

Gen Kayumba Nyamwasa explains why he parted ways from Paul Kagame's regime on Radio Itahuka. Part 1.

In the earlier hours of 27th Feb 2012, Dr Theogen Rudasingwa, one of the founding members of Rwanda National Congress based in the USA, interviewed Gen Kayumba Nyamwasa who is currently residing as a refugee in South Africa. The interview, which drew in a number of callers lasted almost one hour as Gen Kayumba answered questions as questions.

Dr Theogene started by sending his greetings to the Rwandese across board.  Asking them to share their ideas in harmony, as it is our culture in RNC without hurrying insults like the Kigali regime.
Dr Theogene welcomed the guest and asked him to introduce himself to the listeners.
In his introduction, Gen Kayumba Nyamwasa greeted and thanked all the members of RNC around the world as well as FDU-Inkingi,  Amahoro and CNR Intwali on the tremendous work done. He also told the listeners that he served as Rwandan Army Chief of staff and later became an Ambassador of Rwanda in India till 2010, when he fled to South Africa.
Dr Theogene started asking him to explain to the listeners why he parted ways with Paul Kagame.
Gen Kayumba started by explaining that he was a lawyer in Uganda and that he was not involved in the army. In 1982 while still in Uganda, because of prevailing circumstances when Rwandans had no place called home, they decided to join the army together with other Rwandese who were residing in Uganda.
In 1994, after taking over power in Rwanda, more than two million people fled the country into neighbouring countries. It was necessary for those that fled to return to their country in peace, so that we could build the nation as a whole. It wasn’t easy to achieve that because of different factors that refugees found in themselves, among them were soldiers, politicians and other people who did not want to return home.
He explained that, the RPF program during the struggle was to fight for democracy and against injustice suffered by the Rwandans and stop influx of refugees, to bring free and fair elections and to restore an independent judicial system for all Rwandans. All the above was never realised, what is even more painful is that Paul Kagame became worse than the system we were fighting. He started purging all perceived political opponents calling them his personnel enemies.
He gave an example of Joseph Sebarenzi who was targeted by Kagame who convened a meeting of RPF so that he could tarnish his image irrespective of the advice that I had given him. Kagame harassed and targeted him and wanting to kill him, he fled the country. The same trend moved to the former President Pastor Bizimungu, despite my several attempts to advice Paul Kagame on the contrary.
What hurts most is the fact that Rwandese youth have been exploited by Kagame and the generals have been turned into slaves for his personnel gains. He locks them up like doors as he pleases. He ignores that your opponents are not your enemy. He gave an example of General John who was sucked by George W Bush and another General whom was sucked by Baraka Obama during the Afghan invasion.
Under Kagame, the situation has turned for worse than what we were fighting against. Anyone who dares to ask or advice is targeted and harassed.  Forcing us to flee the country and others to apologise for the crimes they never committed, for the sake of pleasing him.
Gen Kayumba cautioned those who think President Kagame represents Tutsis or their interests.  He made it abundantly clearly that it is Tutsis who have suffered even more under the dictatorship of Paul Kagame . He laments of those who lost everything, their children paying with their lives for a man who has taken all the worthy of the country. He warned those who state that Paul Kagame stands for Tutsis or that Habyarimana stood for Hutus to stop using ethnic divisions for their benefit and entrenchment of their dictatorship.
Our political prevailing situtation can’t be divorced from what’s happening in the Arab world (Arab spring) Syria, Egypt, Tunisia and elsewhere.  Those fighting the dictators, it’s not because they are warmongers, but they are fighting for freedom and human rights. For example;
Our own Victory Ingabire, why is she incarcerated?
Charles Ntakirutinka, what crime(s) has he committed to be sentenced for ten years, Pastor Bizimungu for five years? Why? Because of starting a political party! Yet Kagame leads one!  We are told they are accused of starting a rebel group. Who are the commanders? Where is the commanding structure? Where are the weapons? Where are the training grounds?
Deo Mushaid, Ntaganda among other political opponents, it has become a culture that whoever criticises him has to be incarcerated, so we must all think like him. Does he think all Rwandans are his photo copies? Even other neighbouring countries have political opponents, they demonstrate for their rights but yet they are not thrown in jails, but only Rwanda. Look at Kiza Besigye of Uganda, Etienne Tshisekedi of Democratic Republic of Congo.
So, people sit and lament that it’s a political problem and it does not concern us. Those are my problems with Paul Kagame.
More than 42 callers on the line had a chance to ask their questions to the General. Those questions and answers will be published in our next issues as Part 2 of this interview. You can follow the interview on link bellow;
