RNC-FDU- INKINGI COALITION EXPLAINED

Radio Itahuka Ijwi ry’Ihuriro Nyarwanda on the 4th March 2012 hosted some of the founding members of FDU-Inking and Rwanda National Congress, the interview lasted more than two hours as they explained the formation of the coalition.

The interview started by Dr Theogene Rudasingwa welcoming everyone from Rwanda as well as those living outside in neighbouring countries and abroad.  He also requested the guests to introduce themselves to the listeners. Present during the interview were, Dr Theogen  Rudasingwa as a host, Col Partick Karegeya, Sixbert Munsangamfura...,Gahima Gerald and  Nkiko Nsengimana.

Dr Theogene made it clear that the topic of today’s discussion is “The relationship between FUD-INKINGI and RNC on how they can better strengthen their coalition, in the fight to restore democracy, human rights and rule of law in Rwanda”.

The first question was posed to Nkiko Nsengimana, the interim coordinator of FDU-inking in Sweden. “What is the significance and reasoning on FDU-Inkingi,  Rwanda National Congress alliance?” Asked Dr Theogene Rudasingwa.
Nkiko responded by saying that the talks with RNC initial started in 2010 where all the coordinators met in order to put in place a platform with which all the Rwandese can act together, regardless their background and bring about change that they longed for. During those meetings, they were things that they shared in common and felt needed to be discussed , among those are; Human Rights values, Mapping report by the United Nations, Strengthening communication.
Gerald Gahima also added that several parties (CNR-Intwali, Amahoro, etc) were invited to the table, from then on meetings took place and discussions about  the politics of Rwanda and the continued maladministration of the government of Rwanda as well as bring about change in Rwanda within a peaceful means by Rwandese dominated the conversations.

Dr Theogene Rugasingwa then asked Sixbert to explain to the listeners the difference in working with other coalitions, having been involved in politics since 1994? Sixbert started by explaining how forming FLD in 96 did not go well as his partner (Seth Sendashongwa) was continuously assorted and eventually killed in 1998 by President Paul Kagame’s operatives in Kenya. That led to the him joining FDU-Inking which was comprised of FDL, ADR and LDR plus many more Rwandese came on board.
Asked his take on the formations, as a person who once worked for the government, Col Patrick Karegeya responded by saying that during his term in the office, the government of Rwanda knew/heard about the formations and was not happy with that, it scared them. That angered the government and started killing opposition figures as we see it today.

Nkiko Nsengimana also stated that, meeting more opposition parties and civil societies is a necessity in order to strengthen the coalition, he also cautioned those in opposition by saying that there is a need to screen those wanting to join in, for they might disguise themselves, meanwhile they are working with the government.

Dr Theogene Rudasingwa asked them (guests) of what they should do going forward in order to avoid or protect themselves from the killings of President Paul Kagame. Same statements were echoed by all the guests that “we need to come out in full force and speak the truth, expose those operatives for Paul Kagame by reporting them to the relevant authorities of countries hosting them” Said Patrick Karegeya.

They also know that some have a problem of their relatives being back in Rwanda, but they assured them that, Kagame won’t kill the whole nation. Dr Thegeone Rudasingwa also reminded the listeners that RPF was formed in exile, as it the case with many other political parties. Sixbert Munsangamfura added that all Paul Kagame, all he want to do is instil fear, use intimidation on people so that he can rule them. He also told the listeners that, supporters and political organisations working in exile have freedom of speech that they can exercise in order to be heard unlike those who still live in Rwanda.

Dr Theogene Rudasingwa opened a way for those who would like to pose their questions. Party 2 of question and answers, coming up next.
